Biggest Little Weekend

Reno has earned the moniker of Biggest Little City in the World because for such a small city relative to the San Franciscos and New Yorks of the World, Reno is loaded with events and activities ranging from art and the outdoors.

This weekend, there are two major events taking place downtown, and a few microvents embedded in them. Some photos I took turned out really well and to jump to the photogallery, click here.

Reno Sculpture Fest features Burning Man sculptures on display beside Whitney Peak. If, like me, you've never been to Burning Man, but have a burning desire to go but have put it off, this might be the closest you could get to some of its finest art. Of course, the context is dramatically different, but still, it's worthwhile to add it to your weekend itinerary. There's free (and paid) music events and It runs until May 10th. Details can be found here.

Reno River Festival runs concurrently and opened with a 5K run this morning. I was looking forward to the annual kayaking events, but unfortunately, due to the drought, there's not much river to the river festival (insert bawling face here). Nonetheless, there are vendor booths and music so if you're downtown for the Reno Sculpture Fest, stop at Wingfield Park, too! Schedule of events can be found here.
