Sandals to Romp Out and Travel In This Summer

Summer has made its big arrival in the Sierras. And what that equates to are seemingly endless days of sunshine! Biophiliacs like me live for this season. It's the time the indoors, laundry, and anything else with the combination of the words "household" and "chores" take the backseat in deference to being outside and having fun baking in the sun, while it lasts.

I, for one, have been getting a lot of hikes in. A favorite has been the Jones/Whites/Thomas Creeks Trails in the Galena Regional Park, which is surrounded by the Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest - practically in our backyard. I like it for hiking because of the shade one gets from the tall trees and from the scent of pine baking, especially if you go during the hottest part of the day. And of course, the biggest draw is that the creeks are still a bit swollen right now and it is always a delight to hike through the forests with the sound and sight of gushing mountain water following you around.

Of course these are not the shoes nor the outfit I hike in, but they are rather perfect for a romp outdoors nonetheless. Rompers are a tomboy's best friend this summer because you get away with, oh you know, all those things tomboys do (see full exhibit below), and still fool your boyfriend you're in a dress. Wear with a nice jacket, et voila, you're off to dinner.

I've been stoked that Birkenstocks are back on trend, but my narrow feet just wouldn't play on with that trend, I'm afraid. The good news is that these Clarks Auriel Fin sandals resemble Birks, but the better news is that these are exponentially more comfortable and cushy (they come in gold, too!).

For traveling, I would wager that if one could manage a tree pose on top of a pointy rock next to a gushing creek on these, one can walk on these for miles on cobblestone streets and maybe, because of that platform wedge, sneak them in at the restaurant.

I know I will.

P.S. Fellow tomboys can relate that bruising comes with tomboy territory. Ironically, I wasn't doing anything particularly edgy; a fire hyrdant in Ballard in Seattle ran into me. Can you imagine the nerve of that fire hyrdrant?

If you can find these Clarks sandals anywhere (i.e. Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack), don't hesitate to get them! Otherwise, these or these might be the closest thing.
