Bonjour from the Top of Europe (Kind Of)

As I write this, the colors of the sky in the background of the massifs are changing ever so slowly. It’s almost 10 pm here and the sun has just set. There is a manageable chill in the mountain air – a reprieve from the stifling heat that has surrounded western Europe last week. We are sitting in the balcony of our room in the mountains facing the highest peak in all of Europe.

Yes, THAT peak.

Mont Blanc.

The street below is still busy with mountain enthusiasts of all kinds – mountain bikers, hikers, rock climbers, active old people – all retiring for the day after a rich day of adventures, I am certain.

I never imagined that I would one day make it here. But my passion for the mountains, still young really, has made it inevitable that I would one day sit where I am sitting right now, in complete awe of the privilege to be surrounded by the powerful beauty that is nature.

Join the journey. Of snowcapped white mountains in the summer. Of hikes, wildflowers, and glaciers. Of humble ascends and descends. Of sore knees and beat up toes. Of rock scrambles. Of waterfalls and alpine lakes. And in the end, yet again, of places in the earth of extreme breathtaking beauty.

* None of the mountains pictured is Mont Blanc. From the our room's balcony and from the bed upon waking up, one can see it, but did not photograph very well. The mountain ranges pictured are to the left of Mont Blanc.
