Immortal

I hate to admit it but I sometimes find myself pondering on mortality. The thought creeps in my head and unravels itself, like a virus, repeating itself over, "I don't want to die. Ever."

There is profound attachment to experiences, places, and moments that the thought of not having those is petrifying. Where is the panic button?

And yet I look to the mountains. Endless. Boundless. Infinite. Each peak, like a snowflake, different the the one next to it. And I am jolted awake and I remember why I am here in the first place. To exactly be having this experience and stashing it away in a safe place because, no, I won't be living forever.

But this is good enough.

Pictured is the Glacier d'Argentiere, spilling out of Aiguille Verte (4121 meters). From the lookout, one could see all the way to some peaks of the Swiss and Italian Alps. There is a 365 degree panoramic view that is rather stunning espeically in the absence of a huge throng of people. We ran into these Dutch kids who, at not even noon, have already climbed up a mountain peak, and were in the process of studying a map to figure out which mountain they're climbing next, as if they're making a decision which happy meal to order.

Getting There

The lift to Grand Montets is covered by the Mont Blanc MultiPass.

There are places to stay in Argentiere or if you're staying in Chamonix, you have to make your way north to Argentiere either by train (not included in the MultiPass), bus, or car.

Distance, according to Google, is 9.2 km.

Take the cable car up to Grand Montets from Argentiere. You can calso get off at Lognan, hike to = Glacier d'Argentiere and get back on the cable car at Lognans to continue to Grand Montets.

Merci Beacoup
