Lyon

Lyon wasn't even part of the plan, and yet after spending a bit over twenty four hours in this majestic and often overlooked French city, we were in utter rapture and wanted twenty four hours more.

We were going to skirt Lyon by a hair as we drove up north from Piedmont in Italy to Chamonix, but imaginings of French food at THE capital of gastronomy in France, Lyon will not let me go. I probably would not have forgiven myself if I did.

But enough of the melodrama. Here's a snippet of our brief time in Lyon as we wandered through the city streets at dusk and on foot, on our way to what must be the most unforgettable dinner of our lives. Lyon used to be a Roman city, so you will find traces of its ancient glory here and there. Otherwise, the medieval part of Lyon is still intact in Vieux Lyon (old Lyon). But more on that on a separate post.

It baffles me how I could have amassed a tan in Italy when I neither did any hiking nor mountain biking there. It was though I had done farm labor in the vineyards of Barolo! Which isn't an apalling idea, actually. I packed monochromatic ensembles of white for this trip which makes decision-making on what to wear to dinner rather mindless, but also exaggerated this mysterious tan. In Europe, I don't bother with my hair either. A lesson learned after a blew out a fuse trying to manage my hair with a straightening iron. In the end, with the humidity, it is all rather pointless. The result is time better spent in discovery, unencumbered by stupid hair management situations. I love it.

You would think that with the fairly significant photographs of myself in this blog that I enjoy having pictures of myself taken. In reality, I don't. I don't have the mastery of that blogger scowl. But with a couple of brand collaborations for this trip, I have to do it, and hopefully, the storytelling, content and the rest of the travel photography will succeed in giving you a sense of place and how and what to pack, which in the end, is what I'm after.

Travel flatforms Perez Glitter by British shoemaker Clarks for shoes that real people could travel in. It has sold out since, but here and here are something similar.
