L'Impossible: An Impossibly Impossible Dinner in Chamonix

Chamonix is very touristy town and as is common with all touristy towns, good, clean food is hard to find. We stumbled upon this marvelous restaurant, L'Impossible, on the fringe of downtown Chamonix in search for ice cream.

We obviously found more than that.

L'Impossible is a family-run Italian restuarant that serves organic, fresh, and farm-to-table food. The restaurant itself is in a restored farmhouse dating back to the mid-1700's. Because of its culinary excellence, L'Impossible has been awarded with a Restaurant de Qualite nod from LeCollege Culinaire de France. From the amuse-bouche to the wines, to the fresh salad dusted with flowers and to the home-made luscious and legendary ice cream, everything was pristine and impeccable.

We don't take travel for granted and having unforgettable gastronomic experiences is part of what we seek when we travel thousands of miles. Sometimes, we realize that the quest for this can be unrealistic and frivolous, especially to the wallet, so we content ourselves with a pot of moules or a cheap steak, and mediocre bread. But sometimes, we are surprised. And impossibly so.

And this perhaps explains why some of our most memorable experiences of Chamonix and Mont Blanc, apart from the astounding hikes and scenery, are made in this restaurant. The menu was small and so was the staff, but the tastes, flavors, and warmth could well be as grand as Mont Blanc.

We were scheduled to leave the day after, but well, those plans changed.

We were to return for one more impossible dinner the following evening.

L'Impossible is located at 9 Chemin du Cry (Route des Pelerins), Chamonix. Official website can be found here.
