(A Glimpse of) The Real Island Life

And a couple of hours later, we were back in our AC van to be driven back to our resort as we prepare
for a feast of fresh seafood feast and other Filipino food goodness. Alongside us was a jeepney
sardine-packed with people and cargo, some of whom are on the top deck (notice the young girl
sitting on the roof), ready to take people back to their homes after a day's grind.
This would turn out to be one of my favorite pictures of the trip. When I shot this photo,
the people in the jeepney preparing to leave were all smiles and good humor - some were waving.
And there it was - the classic Filipino resilience that has gained us respect all over the world.
Tough situations, tough day at work - these got nothing on the Filipino spirit.
I have not encountered anything like this anywhere else lately,
and perhaps this reason alone is enough reason to want to come back.
