ROUEN
NORMANDY, FRANCE
Normandy has already captured my imagination for a while before visiting,
especially after reading captivating stories like this and this a few years ago.
Rouen, located a tad inland on the north central part of Normandy. An odd
choice, admittedly, but we purposefully wanted to stay somewhere off-beat
and quiet. We were in Bruges in Belgium, and Rouen was within striking
distance, and so logistically, it was an easy choice.

The Rouen Cathedral is one of those gorgeous, otherworldly Gothic churches.
If it looks strikingly familiar, you might remember it from a Monet painting.
I love the textured facade of this cathedral, like details on hand-woven
lace, the stories are detailed and intricate.

This region of France is popular for Calvados, a liquor made from local apples,
and Camembert, both of which you could find at Place du Vieux Marche. The
seafood at this market is fresh here as well, and my little gluttonous heart
swelled at the fresh salty taste of oysters, lobsters, and shrimp. I've never had
street/market food this elegant.
