magic & MORNINGS
IN BANFF
It's may become pretty obvious that I'm still reeling from
our recent trip to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada.
For something relatively easy to get to from the west coast,
I'm flabbergasted that a place so isolated and seemingly
remote is within such close range.
A few days in Banff was also a great warm up to ease into
the winter season and Christmas - just about my favorite part
of the year.
The downside of winter is that sunshine is a hit-or-miss affair.
When the day breaks in the Canadian Rockies, you just don't
know if you you will get fog, snow or sunshine that day. Blue
skies are never a guarantee and although our trip started with
a couple gloomy days, it ended with a couple of days of blue
skies and sunshine. Hurrah!
Banff is so small I could hardly call it bustling, but in the mornings
when we are thrust into the cold, sometimes, dreary day, our
mornings walks in search for caffeine tend to be silent. Our
downtown hotel is so close to the Bow River Trail that in
the morning, it is not rare to find elk grazing on the river banks.
Mornings were never my strong suit. But in Banff, I find myself
almost a morning person. It's magic.

Remember to give wildlife space. Never approach wildlife nor feed them.
We retreated from these elk who were across the river from us shortly.
And it was back downtown for our daily caffeine fix at White Bark Cafe.
